Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson Both lawyers. The couple relocated to Oxfordshire at the age of five years old and attended the Dragon School. At the age of six, Emma knew that she wanted to be an actress and for many years she trained at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school where she studied the art of acting and dancing. By the age of ten she had performed and taken part in many Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 film adaptation from J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel was published in 1999. Emma was found by casting agents via Emma's Oxford theatre instructor. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone, and Ron Weasley told Emma after 8 auditions, that she had been picked for these roles. She was cast alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. The film's release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's cinematic screen debut. It was also the most successful film in 2001. The opening weekend and day the sales were record breaking. Film critics praised the film as well as the performances of the three young stars. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her performance. Emma's performance was nominated and later won awards for the film.
